Question by rosie: Soprano seeking good digital recorder for singing?
I bought a Sony digital recorder at walmart that really didn’t work. It always sounded extremely fuzzy when I would sing.
Does anyone have a model that works for them? I’m looking in the $ 50-$ 100 frame
If you have a really good recorder that is more or less expensive please list it too…

Thanks

What you bought is digital VOICE recorder. It is not for music or singing – it is for speach, low quality.
You will probably need to spend in the area or $ 250+ for a quality recording device. Here are few to cosider:
Edirol R09 24-Bit WAV and MP3 Recorder
Zoom H4 Mobile 4Track Stereo Field Recorder

You bought a unit that limits it freq response to the 300Hz to 3kHz range not good for singing but great for clarity of spoken voice. The maximum deviation of AM is 3kHz worked great for years.

What a deal do I have for you…
I’m a special education teacher who asked the school system to provide a digital recording system for recording & playing snipets of selected songs for behavior modification training for an individual who responds best to ‘singing’.
They purchased a wonderful little device (cast range $ 45.00-55.00) that not only does a fabulous job with recorded & live voices in song but also it works beautifully for another youngster who responded well to Star Wars character’s voices & sound effects. It’s an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder VH-2100.

As a musician myself – I bought one to use with my trumpet lessons – I understand how vital a decent sound quality is. Best to you!

I think that is only for speaking, not singing.
