Digital Video Recorder?

My brother is about to graduate from college with a degree in film studies and creative writing. Currently he makes his own videos using a Canon digital picture camera and uploading them to his computer. He is very talented at editing them and I figured it would be a good graduation present to get him a good video camera to help him out.
Any ideas?
looking for:
small, portable
possibly 60 minutes of recording time
at least 2gb
good zoom quality
compatible with PC
good sound quality
willing to pay anything less than $ 350, preferably $ 100-$ 275 range
I am currently looking at a flip camcorder but open to all ideas from people more knowledgeable than me.

The new Sony SR85 will blow your mind. 0 right now on amazon. I had to wait a month to get mine. There is a line. Night vision, 27x optical zoom, 60Gig internal hard drive. You won’t be sorry. It is awesome. Not high def but don’t waste you money yet on high def because editing software is not working right. Your brother might lose his patience.
