Isn’t a Zoom Recorder better than shotgun mic?

Question by Kamen Rider: Isn’t a Zoom Recorder better than shotgun mic?
I’m thinking to buy an external mic for my HV20, but I used Zoom Recorder, whose quality was really good. So, for recording better audio, shouldn’t I get a Zoom Recorder, not a shotgun mic? What is the problem with using Zoom Recorder; to sync recorded audio and video?

It depends on your needs and how flexible you think you need to be at any given shoot.
I like the Zoom H4… manual audio control, built-in mics, XLR/TRS combo mic jacks…
Some folks prefer to not have to do the audio sync during editing.
Also, most affordable shotgun mics are mono. And the good shotgun mics use XLR connectors. Zoom field recorders do not have shotgun mic characteristics – and are stereo. You can plug a shotgun mic into the H4… With the HV30, that 1/8″ (3.5mm) audio in jack would require a XLR adapter like those from juicedLink or BeachTek when XLR mics are used.
