this is a cheap recorder

LOL a Video promoting a Digital Field Recorder and the Audio is the worst I have ever heard, i am hoping you did not use the Zoom to record this as that will not help selling any of these recorders ……

But i couldn’t turn down the Tascam DR100 for what i payed

By outithewoods on September 13th, 2009 at 6:36 pm

how does it compare to the Tascam DR100?

By aaronharnett on September 13th, 2009 at 6:39 pm

I am trying to understand this manual, but the translation from Japanese (I’m assuming) is terrible. Any after market documentation?

a non deep voice like i have.

By CatStripeProductions on September 13th, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Thank you for this Video. I just ordered one for field recording for video projects. I’ve never owned a recorder but I’m glad I read the user’s manual beforehand. Lots of stuff to understand.

Great unit, go to 4 channel mode to adjust levels (Line and Mic). Great direct from soundmixing board as well. Used for 3 interviews (time code sync) and live music. A lot of features and combinations availible. Got the remote unit ($40.00), great not having to be hands on once you set it up.

what the hell is a “nerdy accent”?

Got one yesterday.. pretty amazing. My only concern is those mics look ready to break, almost predicting that, like murphy’s law, if it can drop and break, it will. These are just waiting to be dropped and oh oh, there goes your $300 dollar little mics. Wish it had the protective wirefram like most mics, although wouldn’t look as cool.

ASIO does not work on Windows 7 x64. What a shame :(
We waiting for update!

Which one would you recommend for recording acousti guitar, H 2 or H 4? H4 unfortunately is twice expensive :/

that was good. thanks, helpful demo!

it’s about $800 in Australia,

By FredeJyllMusic on September 14th, 2009 at 1:44 am

Yes there is.. the Zoom RC-4 Remote!!! XD

By NicGonzalez1 on September 14th, 2009 at 2:13 am

This definitely beats the edirol R-09 models any day and the crappy tascam recorder. Is there a remote for the zoom h4n?

By KalaniPrince on September 14th, 2009 at 3:00 am

Check out my test with the H4n on Maui’s windy north shore. Peace out-

By GUARDONISSIMO1 on September 14th, 2009 at 3:18 am

thanks a lot

By spectorman09 on September 14th, 2009 at 3:23 am

yes, I recorded from about that distance at the Reading jazz fest recently and it did a nice job. Place it away from the audience, off to the side if possible or it will record conversations from people around it as well as the concert. Very good recorder and nice price to. With the optional battery pack it doubles as a stun gun to freak out your riends with.

By GUARDONISSIMO1 on September 14th, 2009 at 3:49 am

Please… can someone tell me if the device would be good to record a concert from a distance of let’ say 40meters?
or there would be a better recorder.
thnx

By openairpreacher on September 14th, 2009 at 4:46 am

I went to guitar center to get one and they dont have it,,, DUH!

im considering getting one…
anyone know what the RRP for australia is?

By RubicsCubeProduction on September 14th, 2009 at 5:51 am

I’m gonna use this in my future film productions. It’s easy-to-use, light and records in AWESOME quality!

@theukarchivist

Completely agree. If you’re having a junk draw, however, can I have a ticket?

By generatrix999 on September 14th, 2009 at 6:46 am

@theukarchivist

Does it have a ‘loop’ function on playback??

I compared the Zoom H2, with Sony SX700, and i fell for the Sony, very sturdy, all metal, three mics! supersensitive, there is a newer model now, the SX800, with more memory, but i am satisfied with the 700, will never use anything else, i am a musician, using mostly the Line-In, facility, but also mic at live recordings, can put it on photostand. much more…..

By HelsinkiHelsingfors on September 14th, 2009 at 7:40 am

There are problems, if you mean using external mic, I have experinced that it makes background noise, like sshhh-sound (I don’t know the excact English term for this).

Is this good for vocal/ acoustic guitar demos?

Has anyone used this for recording from the telephone?

By schneckenturm on September 14th, 2009 at 8:46 am

the h2 makes recordings from cassette players or vinyls as well: they are brilliant and if they have some scratching you can try different programs to let it disappear.

Does anybody know how good line-in recordings it makes?

By wildpianoman16 on September 14th, 2009 at 9:43 am

For the stuff I use it for, it works out brilliantly. It’s beautiful. No mic hiss. It does have handling noise but that’s just because of how much of a preamp the mic has. I’m a music composition/technology student and I record a lot of live music and lectures. I also do a lot of file encoding and sound stuff. It works extremely well.

how has the H2 worked out?

By theukarchivist on September 14th, 2009 at 10:58 am

I can thoroughly recommend this wonderful and inexpensive gadget. I bought one about five months ago and record live gigs for bands and piano recitals at a local church – the results from the onboard mics are amazing, and I’ve just bought some pro mics that I can plug in – the tests on which are truly excellent also. I’ve got lots of technology that’s ended up in the junk draw over the years – but this will never do so!

By TheNewFormula on September 14th, 2009 at 11:48 am

We use them at my school for taping radio shows at the malls, plazas, etc. The are very good, I think.

I used this last night; drummer with the biggest kit I’ve ever seen, keys, lead electric guitar on an amp, electric bass thru an amp, and me on acoustic/vocals thru a mixer/cab. We were all packed in a room pretty tight (15′x15′) and the results were AMAZING!

Granted, I’ve never recorded with a ‘mini-recorder’ like this before but I was stunned with the results. We recorded exclusively through it’s ‘over-the-air’ mic -= no direct inputs. The unit was placed about as far from the amps/cab’s as it could have been and still, great results. I was between my cab’s and the unit, and I heard myself better on the recording than I could live! I’m buying one – period!

By tobykuhnert1 on September 14th, 2009 at 1:18 pm

you mean a mulittrack recorder? i dont think you can on this model cehck out the boss series (br900cd) that what I have

buy an adapter that converts the larger size to the smaller one. i use one to plug my bass and guitar into my computer’s line in port. costs around 5$ at almost any music store

By nachothebassplayer on September 14th, 2009 at 1:37 pm

i think u just press a record button and it records everything

By wildpianoman16 on September 14th, 2009 at 2:13 pm

I think the H4 or H4n is best for your concerns to be addressed. I play piano so I don’t have this problem but I’ve researched recorders and this is what I found. I am expecting an H2 in the mail within the next day or so to use for composition rehearsals. Hope this helps.

well if you use a program like audacity to put your records together it may work.

can i play or record something over what i already have recorded?

i have the same question

yes it can haha

everybody praises this thing in how good it records live but what about multitracking, i notice it has a 1/8 input for a mic (unless you go to a mixer) how can i plug my gtr, bss etc?

casn this thing run on an ac adaptor?
